Temporary residence card is a document issued by an immigration authority or a competent authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to a foreigner who is permitted to reside in Vietnam for a certain period of time. This card has the same validity as a visa. Basically, this document proves the legal residence of foreigners in Vietnam. Besides, foreigners with a temporary residence card shall be granted visa-free and can enter and exit as many time as they need in the duration of the card without carrying out the procedure for visa application, they also sponsor their relatives to enter Vietnam corresponding to the duration of the card.
Notes when applying for reissuance of temporary residence card
- The validity of the foreigner’s passport shall be at least 13 months.
- With foreigner employees: work permit or certification of exemption from work permit must be at least 12 months. In the case that the duration of these documents are under 12 months, the foreigners must apply application for visa.
- The foreigners who lost their temporary residence card can apply for a new card with the duration is equal to the old one or longer but not exceeding 5 years according to applicable law.
An application for reissuance temporary residence card
When carrying out the procedure for reissuance temporary residence card, the foreigners prepare the same documents as the case of issuance of the new card.
- A written request from inviting entity (choose the suitable form with each case);
- Passport/Visa;
- Decleration of temporary residence is certified by local police authority;
- 02 photos of 3x4 cm
- 01 true copy of papers proving the purpose of residence in Vietnam (work permit, certification of exemption from work permit, investment registration certificate, certification of marriage, birth certificate,…)
- A written which explains the reason for reissuing temporary residence card
Procedures for reissuance of temporary residence card
- Agencies, organizations and individuals directly inviting or sponsoring shall submit application for reissuance of temporary residence cards for foreigners at immigration authorities where the inviting or sponsoring agencies or organizations are based or where the inviting or sponsoring reside.
- Within 05 working days from the receipt of sufficient documents, the immigration authority or the competent authority of Ministry of Foregin Affaris shall consider reissuing the temporary residence card.
